Secrets of Evocation: A Beginner's Guide
Evocation is a complex rite that dates back to the dawn of civilization and has been practiced by mages and mystics all over the world. Evocation involves calling upon otherworldly entities, making deals with them, and then either commanding them to fulfill your wishes or taming them so they are at your service. If you want to learn more about evocation and how it can help you, this beginner’s guide will give you the basic facts about the practice and how to go about performing it yourself.
What are Evocations?
As an occultist, your Evocations are one of your most valuable weapons. Essentially, they are rituals that cause effects on another plane or material world. They can be used to get answers from higher intelligences, such as Angels and Spirits; to ask for their blessing in a ritual; or even to create physical objects and give them power (such as talismans). But every tool is double-edged: for every positive effect you receive from performing an evocation, there is also a negative effect you must endure. Some evocations last moments; others days or weeks or years. If you decide to summon something dangerous into our world, it may not leave... ever. Remember always: magic is a force beyond human understanding; use it wisely and carefully lest you unleash evil upon yourself. Let us begin with some basic information about Evocations: The first thing any aspiring Mage should know about Evugations is that everything we do will have consequences--mostly unintended ones.
Types of Material Energy
In order to pull energy from a specific place and time, you must first know which type of material energy you are drawing upon. There are five types of material energy: Aether, Azoth, Elemental (Air/Fire/Water/Earth), Vital and Human. Below is a description of each type so that you may understand what each one means and how they operate in conjunction with each other. It is important to note that some evokers prefer to use only one kind for their work; however it is also possible for an individual to work with several types at once as there are ways to create syncretic links between them. However these relations can be difficult to learn due to many reasons. As such, it is best if you choose one type early on and stick with it for your initial studies before learning more about those listed below. Aether: The First Energy This is considered the most primitive form of matter energy in existence because it was present before anything else existed- even Chaos itself!
Basic Information on the Lesser Key
Key of Solomon is an anonymous text written in 17th century France by a famous magician who used it to achieve all kinds of mystical powers. He was truly prolific, and his most popular book was The Lesser Key of Solomon. In fact, you've probably heard of it before! Although completely shrouded in mystery, there are many theories on what it is and what its purpose may be. It has been said that The Lesser Key contains instructions for conjuring 72 demons (known as familiars) that would help Solomon with anything he wanted - from finding buried treasure to winning wars against foreign rulers. Of course, almost no one alive today has actually tried out these rituals. Why? Well... because doing so requires going into really dangerous territory. Before we go into more detail about what exactly these 72 familiars can do, let's talk about why The Lesser Key exists in the first place and how it came to be compiled into such a powerful grimoire (or handbook). As mentioned above, King Solomon is seen as one of history’s greatest magicians due to his incredible skill at evoking spirits; legend says he knew magic to control nature itself!
Recommended Reading (Books)
Here are a few great books to help you on your journey: The Seven Keys by Peter J. Carroll and Bruce F. Campbell (current), Secrets of Western Magic by Jason Mankey (current), Liber Null & Psychonaut by Peter J. Carroll (outdated, but still useful) and Essential Kaballah by Daniel C. Matt (extremely outdated). Buy these books on Amazon or wherever you buy your books, as well as any local occult/new age stores that are in your area. I'll also leave some links below to where you can read more about evocation and check out some spells if you want! Use them as jumping off points to research on your own and personalize however you see fit. Also, try not to worry too much about getting every little thing right. Just do what feels right for you and tweak things along the way until it fits perfectly for who you are now and where you're at in life. This is what Magick is all about anyway; experiencing things from our own perspectives rather than trying to adopt another persons experiences verbatim. :) You'll learn a lot while practicing evocation even if it turns out to be totally different than others' experiences with it so don't hesitate just because someone said something won't work or was wrong somehow.
